2nd pair I've owned. I used to own the Tatra and used that as my everyday heavy duty hiker, while saving my Scarpa Kailash for hunting. Since the quality of the Scarpa boots have declined (I bought the new Kailash and returned them), I thought I would try something new. I also tried the Crispi Summit and had to return those as the craftmanship was terrible- they arrived with tongue foam extruded out past the top tongue seam and many seams unraveling right out of the box. Saw these on sale in my size from Backcountry for $169 and jumped on them. They are everything I remember from the Tatras; Roomy toe box, lock-down heel (I have very, very avg feet; 10.5/44.5, avg arch, avg heel), the ability to lock the laces down on the forefoot while going a little tighter on the collar. Side hilling all day with a pack, steep descents, and toe-hold climbing were all handled without foot slippage inside the boot. Very, very comfortable and little to no break-in, no hotspots.I finished with Skidmore's conditioning creme and the 24 hr.s later Skidmore's waterproof wax and haven't looked back (except to enjoy the view). Dinged one star because of weight. Nowhere near the heaviest, but not nearly as light as the old Kailash (too bad they ruined that company, those boots WERE amazing).
