I've been running in Asics GEL-DS Trainer for several years and this 23 model fits similar to others from the past. It's a good neutral to mild pronation control shoe that's lightweight. I haven't done distance running in any other brand or model since i've started using these in the 18 model. The shoe is more on the narrow side so if you have a wide foot or need a larger toe box then these may not fit well or just size up appropriately. The size of this shoe fits true to size and I wouldn't even say that the toe box is narrow or two wide but there's something about the way the shoe fits search that on the medial side it pinches the top of the toe on step off. Had to return, otherwise I think it could have been a good shoe. Maybe it's just me, but I've historically ran well in Asics (kayano).Overall I really like the shoe, but I did have to modify the lacing to make sure that it wasn't too tight at my mid-foot.The price was right but I hate the color. Have worn this model for over 20 years & it works for me.Gel DS trainers are the only running show I wear. They always run 1/2 size small; they have a narrow toe area so they are not great for people with wide feet. They are incredibly lightweight and hold up well over many miles. As long as they keep making them, I'll keep buying them.I had run approximately 40 miles of mixed paved and dirt trails when I took this picture. Upper of shoe is starting to wear badly where my big toe sits in the shoe. The black spot in the picture is my sock. I thought I would get a better quality shoe for $109.00.I love this shoe. This is my 6th shoe purchased through Amazon. Great price, quick delivery. Shoe fit perfect. And a great performer. Nothing surprising and that's what you want in your running shoes. I do wish they had a few more color choices.A bit narrow. I'll have to wear them several Kms to achieve a perfect fit.The very first impression of these shoes is how yellow they are, we're talking hi-vis. The second impression, when taking them out of the box, was how long and thin they looked, compared to my other running shoes. The appearance of length is a bit of an illusion as they are fine on the foot, although they could do with the laces being it bit longer. I immediately replaced the stock laces with a pair of no-tie elastics and these are the first shoes I've had that I didn't need to trim the elastics down to size. The reference to thin refers to the width of the shoes. I don't have big feet but found the width a bit of a problem. A couple of days on a shoe stretcher largely solved that issue. As is often the case with new shoes, I had a problem with 'hot feet' and my fore soles being tenderized in the first 50 miles, or so, which meant I could only use them for short distances in the early days. However, I'm now up to 9 mile runs in them and they feel good on my feet and am confident they'll be fine on longer runs, at least up half marathon distance. The last ergonomic comment I have is related the hard little 3 legged grips on the fore sole. I'm a fore foot striker and occasionally clip the inner bone of my ankles with the opposite foot. Normally that's not a problem but with the DS-23, where these little grips are at the inner edge of shoe, the sharpness of these has caused bleeding on the opposite ankle. I've solved that problem by putting light strapping round my ankles. In terms of performance, I'm really starting to like them. They're a little heavier than the other shoes I'm currently using, but they don't feel that way in action. They feel fast and light and increasingly comfortable. They've also got a slightly bigger heel to toe drop than I've been used to recently, but again that's not noticeable on the run.In the first few weeks I would probably only have given these shoes 2 stars but I'm really beginning to enjoy running in them. If it wasn't for the 'sliced ankle' issues, I'd probably rate them as 5 now.Great race day shoes - light with a good amount of spring and support. I only train 3 - 4 days a week so I actually use them as daily trainers as well - road and treadmill. Love the bright yellow colour - it really pops!I wanted a cheaper alternative to my usual Brooks Adrenaline GTS trainers, and these were on offer at 50% of their pre-sale price. My heart sank as soon as I took the trainers out of the packaging and put them on. I am a very flat footed runner and these trainers offer absolutely NO arch support. The manufacturer has emphasised lightness at the expense of build strength. I will go back to Brooks, or New Balance.First time I've tried this trainer/running shoe, I usually go for GT 1000. I'm a shoe size 8, 8.5 in most trainers. These come up quite narrow, compared with the 1000, but as I have narrow feet , this suites me fine, better in factAsics and me get on .. usually go for the GT1000 range but gave tgese a whirl .. They feel lighter.snugger fit. Time will tell after a few miles so a little early to make any positive / negative comments .
